Application Scenarios
Economy hotels prefer all-in-one devices to build their networks, saving investment and simplifying network architecture. Typically an all-in-one device integrates multiple features such as the router, firewall, switch, Private Branch Exchange (PBX), Access Controller (AC), etc.; however, performance for this type of all-in-one device’s can quickly decline when it runs all of these features under multiple roles. In the worst case, it may shut down and disrupt hotel operations. How can hoteliers avoid this negative result and still benefit from an all-in-one device?
1)The device must require less manual configuration and enable rapid deployment.
2)The network needs simple network architecture, and it must enable a variety of services and reduce investment.
3)Bandwidth usage must be limited for each guest room.
4)Virus infections must be prevented from spreading from the guests’ laptops to the hotel network.
5)Branch offices must securely access the headquarters’ network.
Solution Overview
Keeping these requirements at the forefront, Huawei provides a highly integrated, stable, and secure network infrastructure solution, as illustrated in the diagram below:
Basic network system
Core Layer
An ARG3 router is deployed at the core layer. ARG3 series routers fully meet the requirements of economy hotels while providing powerful core switching capabilities via its switch boards, firewall functionality via security boards, a connection to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) through the voice board, and analog and IP telephone support through the voice board. It also has an integrated software AC module. Huawei’s all-in-one solution combines many functions in one, simplifying network architecture.
Access Layer
The S1700/S2700 series switches are deployed at the access layer. The access switch converges traffic to the core layer through fiber or gigabit electrical interface and connect various terminal devices, such as personal computers, laptops, tablets, Access Points (APs), IP cameras, IP telephones, and other IP devices, to the hotel network. For analog devices such as telephones, fax machines, etc., an Integrated Access Device (IAD) device is required. The access layer devices are usually deployed in equipment rooms in each floor.
1. ARG3: Small device with multiple functions
Multi-core Central Processing Unit (CPU): Versatile, high-performance CPU can handle various tasks simultaneously.
Non-blocking switching: Non-blocking switch design avoids conflicts between different services, such as the router and the firewall.
Performance does not decline when all features are running.
2. Two-layer network architecture reduces failure points and simplifies maintenance.
All-in-one device, integrated multiple features in one device, to reduce failure points, to simplified network architecture, in order to reduce the cost of network maintenance.
3. Auto-configuration function streamlines network configuration
The Auto-configuration server is deployed at the hotel group headquarters. When a branch hotel builds their network, the ARG3 router downloads the standard configuration file from the auto-configuration server. When the access switches start, the router automatically dispatches the configuration file to these switches.
4. Three lines of defense prevent the spread of viruses in the hotel network
Huawei provides triple network security protection for hotels though export protection, network isolation, and Layer 2 protection:
1)VLAN technology separates each guest room.
2)Separates guest room and office networks and controls access to the server area using Access Control Lists (ACLs).
3)Deploys ARG3 firewall board at the Internet border.
