Application Scenarios
Typically, economy hotels only provide wireless Internet access in the lobby and free wired Internet access in guest rooms. Some smaller hotels do not offer wireless Internet access at all. With the proliferation of tablets and smart phones, more guests want wireless Internet access at their hotel; therefore, wireless Internet access is quickly becoming a new service offered by economy hotels.
Solution Overview
Economy hoteliers must be aware of wireless network construction, maintenance, and operational costs.
To meet the unique needs and challenges of economy hotels, Huawei designs wireless network systems as shown in the diagram below:
Wireless System
The Huawei economy hotel wireless network system includes an AR router with Access Controller (AC) function, access switches in the floor, and thin Access Points (APs). In guest rooms, access switches connect each AP and power APs via Power over Ethernet (POE). Based on the hotel’s requirements and environment, Huawei can provide several ways to deploy the APs, such as installing a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), WLAN combined with 2G/3G, WLAN combined with Cable Television (CATV), WLAN indoor distribution, etc. WEB PORTAL or SSID and key authentication methods can be used for wireless certification. WEP, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK can be used for encryption, so the system does not need a RADIUS authentication server.
1. Advanced Access Controller (AC) and thin AP network architecture enable efficient wireless operation and maintenance
The ARG3 router comes with an integrated Access Controller (AC), so hoteliers do not need to buy a separate AC, saving investment costs. The AC + Thin AP architecture offers the following benefits:
- AP unified configuration
- AP focused management
- Wizard-like configuration
- Fast fault locating
- Fast fault recovery
The AC + Thin AP architecture reduces the wireless network maintenance workload and improves wireless coverage, giving guests a better wireless Internet access experience.
2. Flexible AP deployment ensures 100-percent wireless signal coverage for hotels
As stated previously, Huawei can deploy APs in a variety of easy ways, depending on hotel requirements and environment. Hoteliers can choose how to deploy their wireless network, ensuring flexibility and complete wireless signal coverage.
3. Elaborate user group control strategy provides safer access
Huawei’s hotel wireless solution uses a user-group-control policy, which is more powerful than normal Access Control List (ACL) control. The technology can not only control access for users with the same SSID, but it also uses a black-and-white list to control each user’s access permissions and speed. This fine-tuning management makes security simpler and more efficient.
4. Intelligent multi-user schedule ensures stable user access
When multiple users access an AP simultaneously, users will experience poor wireless performance. To resolve this problem, the Huawei wireless network system uses the more intelligent multi-user scheduling technology, which:
- Detects the number of users in real-time
- Ensures speed and stability in conditions of high density and multi-user access
- Lets hotels easily cope with such scenarios as multi-user access to the wireless network in banquets and large meetings
- Adds value to banquet and meeting room rentals and enhances guest satisfaction
1. Fat AP deployment
This applies to older hotels. Fat APs are installed directly in rooms, saving costs but causing more disruption.
