Highway is the artery of national or regional economic. Highway Informatization is the most important way to achieve efficient management, and to ensure the smooth flow and security.

Challenges of Highway

  • In many countries, with the fast economic development and urbanization, highway has become an important component of the national infrastructure. The total mileage of highway reaches more than 230,000 km all over the world. How to systematically and efficiently manage the highway so as to maximize highway usage and lower operating costs? That becomes a common problem facing by highway manager department:
  • Highway is geographically wide spaning, and sensible to weather condition and natural disasters (landslides, floods, fog, etc.). Thus, it is essential for the highway management dept. to master the road conditions in real time, to locating the accidents and fast emergency response.
  • Because of the heavy traffic and high speed, it becomes a must to release traffic information (traffic, accidents, congestion, disasters, and weather) timely to the travelers by VMS or other Medias.
  • Highway constructions require large investment, how to shorten the ROI is a challenge;
  • Daily maintenance of highway is time and money consuming, the highway company needs an efficient, handy tool to lower the operation cost.

It has proven that the three sub-systems, video surveillance, network tolling system and communication system, on the highway provide solid, reliable and efficient supporting to the managers to face the challenges mentioned above.

Huawei Highway Informatization Solution

Huawei launched the highway informatization solution, which includes roadside surveillance, integrated voice communication and tolling system, and a unified bearing network as well, as shown in Figure 2.

Features

  • High security: voice, toll and video data are transported via the unified bearing network with different QoS levels;
  • Proven reliability: SNCP and MSP technologies enable the auto-switching (<50ms) thus ensure non-interruption of business in case of equipments failure.
  • Unified maintenance and management, rapid deployment: The one-click deployment Huawei unified NMS enables the system administrator E2E and visual management of the ICT resources on highway, which covering the transmission, access and IP equipments.

Highway Network Toll Collection Solution

Scenarios

This solution is mainly used in a variety of toll methods coexist, multiple sections of interconnection charges, and unified data collection, statistics, analysis of multiple scenes. The typical highway network toll collection business scenarios as shown below:


  • The business data flow: Toll laneßàToll stationßàsurveillance center;
  • Transmission of data: Toll business data、toll surveillance video、system running parameters;
  • The network must have the security, reliability, real-time and low delay to ensure the 24-hour real-time clearing and integrity for toll data;
  • Free flow of license plate recognition, path identification, real-time deductions.

Solution Overview

Switches and transmission equipments will connect toll lane, toll booths, fee sub-centers and provincial interconnection charges center to ensure the real-time transmission of tolling data. Using the high security performance of MPLS VPN service bearer, fulfill the high security of the tolling business requirements.

Highway Integrated Surveillance Solution

Scenario

Highway video surveillance includes main road, toll station and tunnel monitoring. As shown in Figure 5:

Transmission data: high definition /standard definition surveillance data;

Surveillance system requirement:

  • The monitoring center monitors road operating conditions in real time;
  • Reliable storage and backup of video data stream from monitoring center, toll stations, and facilitate historical inquiry and playback;
  • Provincial monitoring center achieve the cross-sections network monitoring, flexible call video in real-time;
  • Digital high-definition video requires clearer video capture images, more efficient license plate recognition.

Requirements of Transmission Network:

  • A variety of access ways, require access devices with rich interfaces;
  • Transmission of video requires a large bandwidth and real-time.

Solution Overview

The Huawei highway surveillance solution is compatible with both IP camera and analogy camera. The GPON technologies make it possible to connect roadside terminals up to 40 km. The all-in-one IVS platform facilitates both centralized and distributed deployment of video data storage, and makes it a single logical platform to all the users in the network.

Scenario

Business Data Flow:

  • emergency call from roadside to Monitoring Center, then to rescue center by city

  • Toll data, and video real-time, reliable transmission;

Solution Overview

The transmission network of Huawei highway integrated communications solutions use both all-IP and MSTP network technology, reliability up to 99.999%, isolate the tolling business, monitoring business and telephone service business from each other. Use different channels to carry different business data, to ensure data security and reliability, especially to take the highest level of security protection for tolling data. The access system uses advanced GPON technology to access cameras, emergency telephones, information screen, collecting equipment, and so on. The ONU devices provide a variety of interfaces to meet as Ethernet, RS 485 interface requirements; OLT located in the toll station, responsible for ODN business data access to OSN. Toll stations and control center LAN design uses the product of a mature enterprise-class switching system. U2000 unified network management system software is able to manage network equipment, transmission equipment, switching equipment, to improve operational efficiency.
