FusionManager

Virtualization: Improves IT system efficiency, but leads to performance and management challenges

With the dawning of the cloud computing era, more than half of x86 servers have applied virtualization technologies. These technologies place high requirements on the skills and quantity of system and application software administrators while reducing costs and improving resource utilization and service agility. With the introduction of virtualization architecture, the traffic model of data centers changes, which imposes new challenges for security management, network management, performance, and SLA guarantees.

Integration, simplicity, and excellent performance

Huawei FusionCube is an IT infrastructure platform based on an open and integrated architecture. Designed based on an open architecture, FusionCube integrates blade servers, distributed storage devices, and switches into its 12 U subrack. Distributed storage, a virtualization platform, and cloud management software are also factory installed on the FusionCube subrack. Furthermore, it supports on-demand resource allocation and scale-out. FusionCube helps enterprises reduce the service rollout time from several months to several days. Customers can optimize configurations based on service requirements to significantly improve operation efficiency.

FusionCube has made performance optimizations for various enterprise application scenarios. Using its integrated hardware architecture, high throughput of distributed storage, high input/output operations per second (IOPS), intelligent network interface cards (iNICs), and solid-state drives (SSDs), FusionCube significantly outperforms its competitors in the industry.

FusionCube is the IT infrastructure for virtualization platform, data warehouse, desktop cloud, data center, and high-performance computing platform scenarios. In both private cloud environments and public cloud environments that provide IT/application hosting services, FusionCube provides customers with considerable benefits when expanding the capacity of existing data centers.

Highly integrated hardware platform

FusionCube employs an innovative integrated hardware platform, which provides configurable computing/storage blade slots in the front as well as GE/10 GE/FC/InfiniBand switch modules in the rear. One 12 U subrack can house a maximum of 32 CPUs and 12 TB memory, thereby fully satisfying computing-intensive application and virtualization requirements. In addition, the high-bandwidth passive backplane, distributed storage, SSDs, and InfiniBand switch modules empower FusionCube to meet high performance requirements from application programs and databases.

Elastic cloud computing platform

FusionSphere software can virtualize computing, storage, and network resources and provide infrastructure as a service (IaaS) services, such as elastic computing, load balancing, and virtual private cloud (VPC).

All physical and virtual FusionCube resources, including switches, VMs, and disks, can be managed on the unified FusionSphere management platform. This platform also supports application resource management, application provisioning and deployment, automatic configuration, and security management.

Whether a user is operating a subrack or an entire data center, their resources can all be managed on the FusionSphere cloud platform. The system management software of FusionCube supports automatic hardware discovery and configuration. Therefore, when expanding the capacity of the cloud platform, users can simply add a new FusionCube, connect cables, and power it on. This simplifies operations and greatly improves the cloud platform capabilities.

Distributed high-speed storage engine

FusionStorage, as a built-in distributed storage engine, virtualizes all local storage resources of FusionCube into clustered storage resource pools. Its distributed architecture exempts FusionCube from performance and bandwidth bottlenecks caused by traditional storage RAID controllers and endows FusionCube with sound reliability and high scalability.

Data is sliced and distributed in all built-in hard disks or SSDs, which not only enhances the storage resource utilization, but also improves system performance. Advanced storage features, such as thin provisioning and linked cloning, do not deteriorate performance. The storage capacity can also be expanded linearly, thereby avoiding data re-planning and storage architecture re-design.
