The media asset management (MAM) is the core system used for digital media asset storage, management, and release. Based on the deep understanding of customers' requirements for media asset operation and use, and bearing the principle of "maximizing the value of assets" in mind, Huawei has launched the MAM Online Storage Solution and the Active Archive Disk Storage Solution, which are built on Huawei's intelligent and convergent storage platforms. These solutions fully address customers' needs from the four perspectives: easy-to-store, easy-to-acquire, easy-to-manage, and easy-to-use.

Difficult to Operate Media Assets

Traditional storage systems fail to meet the business development requirements of TV stations and cannot add value to media assets, for example, by supporting new media, content rental, and data mining. Furthermore, digital copyright of media assets is unable to be protected. Therefore, once the media assets are used without authorization, tracing and inspection are difficult.



Difficult to Use Media Assets

Retrieving data from tapes requires format conversion, which deteriorates the image quality and is inefficient. However, migrating media files is complicated and takes a lot of time.



High O&M Costs of Media Assets

Tapes have a short service life and must be replaced every two years on average. Moreover, tapes have severe requirements for their storage environment and need a large storage space. Media asset systems generally have high energy consumption.

  • Tiered storage: Data is classified and migrated depending on the access frequency, priority, and business type. Hot data is migrated to active disks while cold data is migrated to offline disks to optimize data flows.
  • High-density and energy-efficient design: This solution is innovative in the industry for its energy-efficient hardware and software integrated design. A 4 U high-density enclosure provides up to 300 TB capacity. Offline hard disks apply the highest level of spin-down, that is, the disk sheets stop spinning and the heads land. This cuts energy consumption by up to 85%.
  • Flexible scalability: With the decentralized and fully distributed architecture, engine nodes support online expansion and plug-and-play. The system performance increases linearly with the number of engine nodes.
  • Intelligent convergence: The full data lifecycle management policy ensures data integrity and achieves quick retrieval and analysis of massive data. The access control policy guarantees data security and data sharing, reduces management risks, and improves program production and broadcasting efficiency.
