BTS3012AE

The Huawei BTS3012AE is a type of outdoor macro base station. Featuring high integration and excellent performance, the BTS3012AE is mainly suited for network coverage along railways without equipment rooms or where the condition of equipment rooms cannot meet the requirements of an indoor base station. The BTS3012AE for GSM-R uses double-transceiver units (DTRU). A BTS3012AE cabinet supports a maximum of 12 TRXs.


High Reliability

The Huawei BTS3012AE is capable of operating with two reliability-enhancing features that are of particular interest for GSM-R networks:



The BTS3012AE supports the "single frequency double coverage" feature

The single frequency double coverage scheme enables two BTSs working in active/standby mode to cover the same area. In addition, only one of the BTSs is working at any specific time. The two BTSs use exactly the same frequencies. In normal cases, the active BTS works properly, whereas the standby BTS works but does not transmit power. When the active BTS is faulty, the BSC triggers the switchover between the active BTS and the standby BTS. Specifically, the previously active BTS is downgraded to "standby BTS" status, whereas the previously standby BTS is upgraded to "active BTS" status. This redundant coverage does not require any additional frequencies compared to single coverage, thus improving network availability and ensuring continued network operation even in the case of a BTS failure.



The BTS3012AE supports the "single frequency TRX redundancy" feature

The single frequency TRX redundancy feature enables a BTS to be configured with a standby TRX that shares the same frequencies with an active TRX. When the active TRX is faulty, the standby TRX is automatically activated to take over as the active TRX, thus improving network availability and ensuring continued network even in the case of a TRX failure.



Coverage Capability

The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of coverage:


  • High receive sensitivity
  • The static sensitivity of the TCH/FS channel is –112.5 dBm (a typical value in normal temperature).
  • Power Boost Technology (PBT)
  • The maximum transmitting power of the DTRU can reach 100 W.
  • Configuration of up to six cells in one cabinet
  • Transmit diversity and 4-way receive diversity


Networking Capability

The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of the networking capability:


  • Supports multiple transmission modes such as E1, T1, and STM-1 transmission.
  • Supports topologies such as star, tree, chain, ring, and hybrid topologies.
  • Supports automatic fast switching to the backup route in ring topologies, without any interruption of ongoing services.


Antenna

The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of antenna:


  • Supports Remote Electric Tilt (RET) antennas
  • Supports dual polarization antennas. This reduces the number of antennas needed to cover one cell.


Power Supply System

The BTS3012AE cabinet is classified into AC cabinet and DC cabinet depending on the type of external power source. The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of power supply system:


  • The cabinet with a DC power supply supports a –48 V DC or a +24 V DC power source.
  • The cabinet with an AC power supply supports a 110 V AC dual-live power source, a 220 V AC single-phase power source, and a 220 V AC three-phase power source.
  • The BTS3012AE supports both internal and external batteries:
    - The BTS3012AE can therefore be configured with a maximum of 200 Ah power storage capability. In an O2 site configuration, the internal 200 Ah storage capability can supply power non-stop for 24 hours after a mains failure when the traffic volume is normal.
    - The external storage batteries can provide up to 600 Ah power storage. In an O2 site configuration, the external storage batteries can supply power non-stop for more than 24 hours after a mains failure when traffic volume is normal.


Environment Adaptability

The BTS3012AE has excellent adaptability to environmental conditions, which greatly reduces the BTS' requirements in terms of environment.


  • A sealed integrated structure that complies with International Protection standard (IP55) in terms of water and dust proofing.
  • Temperature range: (heat exchange type, sunshade required in high temperature area)
    - –20°C to +45°C (cabinet with DC power supply)
    - –40°C to +50°C (cabinet with AC power supply)
  • A powerful temperature control system, which enables it to adapt to adverse environments
    - In a very warm environment, the temperature control unit dissipates the heat.
    - In a very cold environment, the heat exchanger raises the temperature of the BTS3012AE to an optimum internal temperature.
  • Complete lightning protection equipment equipped with built-in DELU (E1 Signal lightning-Protection Unit for DTRU BTS) and a power lightning protection unit
  • An environment monitoring system that monitors the environment around the BTS at the remote end


Installation

The BTS3012AE is easy to install. It has the following benefits in terms of installation.


  • It can be installed on a concrete floor, building roof, or tower.
  • All the external cables come in through the bottom of the cabinet. A 200 mm high space is reserved for the cabling, which greatly facilitates maintenance.
  • Field installation personnel only need to secure the cabinet and install the external cables.

Simple installation of the hardware and software greatly reduces the installation time and facilitates fast network deployment.



Space Reservation

The reserved space houses the built-in E1 and SDH transmission equipment or other user equipment.


The dimension of the reserved space provided by Huawei varies depending on the type of cabinet and batteries:


  • 7 U (for both the cabinet with DC power input and AC power input)

Table 4-1 lists the working frequency bands of the BTS3012AE. The space between carriers is 200 kHz.

The BTS3012AE cabinet with AC power supply uses a mature EPS210-4830A power supply system.

Cabinet with DC Power Supply

The BTS3012AE consists of two types of DC cabinets: cabinet with a –48 V DC power supply and cabinet with a +24 V DC power supply. The cabinet with the +24 V DC power supply uses the mature EPS48100D power system.
